IEM Kolkata launches Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing

In a significant stride towards technological advancement, the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata, inaugurated the Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing on April 24, 2024. This pioneering initiative aims to drive cutting-edge research in quantum computing, positioning IEM as a leader in this rapidly evolving field.

Quantum computing, leveraging quantum mechanics principles, offers processing power millions of times faster than traditional computers.

The Center aims to delve into various aspects of quantum computing applications, including Quantum Information Processing, Quantum Machine Learning, and Quantum Cryptography. Through partnerships with IBM Quantum Network and AWS Braket, the center will have access to state-of-the-art quantum platforms, empowering researchers to explore the complexities of quantum phenomena.

Dr Satyajit Chakrabarti, Director of IEM and UEM said – “Our new Quantum Computing Center of Excellence and Quantum Computing Laboratory in the Godrej Genesis building in Sector V, Kolkata has been made with an investment of approximately Rs 10 Crores, part of the Rs 600 crores investment in the State of West Bengal, announced investment in the BGBS. The New Quantum Computing Laboratory will train approximately 2000 Technology students every year, supporting more than 200 researchers from West Bengal.
